Kidney Health
Kidney Disease means your kidneys are damaged and can’t filter blood the way they should.
Kidneys are essential to healthy body.
- They are mainly responsible for filtering waste products, excess water, and other impurities out of the blood. These toxins are stored in the bladder as urine and then removed with urination.
- Kidneys regulate pH of blood by regulating various salt levels. They also produce hormones that regulate blood pressure and control the production of red blood cells.
- Kidneys even activate a form of vitamin D that helps the body absorb calcium.
- Kidney disease also leads to other health problems, including weak bones, nerve damage, and malnutrition.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a long-term condition that does not improve over time. Kidney function slowly gets worse with time. CKD is a complex disease. The circulatory system of the body- the systemic circulation, portal circulation, pulmonary circulation, renal circulation all gets affected. This leads to several complications like Anaemia, Metabolic Disorders, Bone Disease, Heart Disease, Imbalance of Electrolytes like Sodium, Potassium and minerals like Calcium, Phosphorus.
Diabetic Nephropathy : High blood sugar can damage the blood vessels in your kidneys. When the blood vessels are damaged, they don’t work properly. Many people with diabetes develop high blood pressure, which can also damage your kidneys.People are at greater risk for kidney disease if they have diabetes or high blood pressure.
There is no immediate cure for CKD, but you can take steps to preserve function and then gradually work to improve their functioning.
In Ayurveda the Kidney is referred as Vrikk and Chronic Kidney Disease is known as Vrikka Roga Upadrava.
Here, Rakta is the prime Dhatu for the exposure of serious signs in Vrikka Roga and Vata is pradhan dosh.
Vrikka(Kidney), Yakrita(Liver) and Hridaya(Heart) are interrelated to each other in the pathogenesis of Vrikka Roga Upadrava due to the vitiation of Rasa, Rakta and Raktavaha Dhamani.
Vrikka Roga is not only limited to Vrikka but it attacks the whole body progressively.
In Ayurveda, for the management of Vrikka Roga and to slow the progression proper nutritional diet is recommended which increases the Rasa Poshan and herbs which gradually slows the progression of renal failure.
Ayurveda not only works positively but also sympathetically for eliminating any kind of kidney damage signs and reviving damaged kidney cells.
